Sustainable agriculture, livestock and fishing: the best innovative and digital practices of Italian and European cooperatives

Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen connected with the sustainable future

Global Goals - Agricoltura 4.0, Co-operatives

16 January 2022

Agri-food and fisheries co-operation, long aware of the sustainability challenge, has invested for years in innovation and has already been widely applying digital farming techniques, essential for climate change resilience. The event will focus on highlighting good practices and further technological developments in precision farming, irrigation and livestock farming, agroenergy and sustainable fishing.

The challenge posed to agriculture by the UN Global Goals and the EU Farm to Fork Strategy is to guarantee good, healthy and sufficient food to a growing population in times of climate change.

Co-operation has a crucial role to play in disseminating new techniques to the large number of small associated family farms which, otherwise, would not be adequate in size to face such complex challenges by themselves.

The cooperatives Il Raccolto, Progeo, Apofruit, Granlatte-Granarolo will present some of the main technological developments taking place in the field of: safeguarding of soil quality, targeted contribution of organic nutrients, reduction of fertilizers and pesticides, water saving, traceability of supply chain through big data management, reduction of methane and GHG emissions by livestock farms and the reduction of the use of antibiotics to counteract antimicrobial resistance. Best practices from the fisheries cooperative sector will also be presented, aimed at the conservation of fish stocks and marine ecosystems, as well as the reduction of fish waste and the recovery of plastic at sea or wasted nets.

The Forum will host representatives from the Italian Government (Undersecretary for European Affairs),  COGECA (General Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives of the European Union), AREFLH (Assembly of European Fruit & Horticultural Regions and Academic of Agriculture) and University of Bologna.

Data Valley meets EXPO

Travel & Connectivity - Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, Quantum, Supercomputing

13 January 2022

The event “Data Valley meets EXPO” presents the Emilia-Romagna Region as a leader in digital and technological transformation through knowledge, research and innovation in the field of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.

The Bologna Big Data Technopole has acquired a relevant international reputation for the extraordinary concentration of supercomputing capacity available and for the presence of an ecosystem made of research, businesses, education and training that makes it unique on a European and international level.

This calculation capacity is essential to seize the opportunities deriving from the application of data-based technologies, starting from Artificial Intelligence, in various areas relevant to the economy, the protection of assets and the lives of citizens.

The event “Data Valley meets EXPO” integrates four dimensions:

  • Evocative dimension: the transformation from a manufacturing economy to a digital economy seen through the redevelopment of abandoned industrial areas that become places of knowledge and innovation where data are the ‘raw material’
  • Technical dimension: supercomputing and the new frontiers of Quantum as tools for technological growth with enormous potential
  • Applicative dimension: supercomputing for the environment and climate, health and well-being, innovation in industry, advanced scientific research
  • Informative dimension: the data economy and its impact on the lives of citizens and communities

The event is organised in  two moments:

1. Technical-scientific forum, which presents the birth and development of the Bologna Big Data Technopole, its scientific value, its potential for international attraction, as well as a selection of applications. Representatives of the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Ministry of University and Research, as well as international experts will intervene. The Forum will be held in the Amphitheatre and Studio, Italy Pavilion.

2. Dissemination and networking event, addressed to the widest audience of Expo participants to bring the public closer to the contents dealt within the Forum and discuss possible collaborations and activities with the attendees. The event will be held at the Cibus Pavilion “M-EAting Italy.

Virtual Dance for Real People

Culture - MicroDances

FND Aterballetto - MicroDanze - Shelter - ph. Celeste Lombardi

27-30 January 2022

The performances, presented through oculus (Shelter by Saul Daniele Ardillo, Kepler and Meridiana by Diego Tortelli), nevertheless maintain a special relationship with the viewer: technology is not the object but the language of a new work, of a digital but never abstract dance.

Ritual and sacrifice are the key to interpreting Shelter by Saul Daniele Ardillo. Diego Tortelli puts two asymmetrical bodies in dialogue in Meridiana and creates micro / macro-worlds with Kepler, an almost science-fiction choreography.

The project has the support of the Ministry of Culture / Special Projects 2021.
With the participation of AGO MODENA FABBRICHE CULTURALI.
Technological development and user experience design by RE: Lab.
Video production & Editing by RIOT STUDIO.

Produced in collaboration with ATER Fondazione.

Personalized medicine: new tools and active policies for prevention, diagnosis and therapy

Health & Wellness - Personalized medicine and biotechnologies

28-29 January 2022

The project brings together the universities of Emilia-Romagna and presents their lines of research and proposals in the field of personalized medicine.

The project includes an exhibition path with immersive videos, interactive stations, a theater-science show and workshops that aim to draw attention to the patient-oriented approach of personalized medicine, respectful of differences. This virtuous combination of experiences enhances a concept of beauty capable of bringing together different cultures and geographies.

The visitor will:

  • learn the progress of regenerative medicine and gender medicine, aimed at the search for new therapeutic approaches to combat serious diseases, restoring to patients activities and dimensions of their life that were previously inaccessible;
  • know the work of doctors and researchers from different scientific areas that make up the supply chain of personalized medicine and who cooperate effectively in Emilia-Romagna to promote the creation of increasingly targeted and effective treatments, promoting the dignity and well-being of the person;
  • deepen the study and discoveries concerning DNA, one of the fundamental challenges that scientists and the brightest minds in medicine have faced in the past and continue to confront.

Learning by Doing and Interactive Innovation with MUNER- Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna.
Assemble and experience in Augmented Reality a FSAE racing car or motorcycle together with the best students and educators of the Italian Motor Valley.

During the “Learning by doing” experience, visitors will wear last generation helmets for augmented reality, sanitized in compliance with the anti COVID-19 regulations, and will be guided inside a virtual space where they will be able to assemble a FSAE racing car with a fully electric or hybrid powertrain or an electric racing motorcycle.

Transported to the heart of the Motor Valley, where the most prestigious vehicles in the world are built, visitors will be able to appreciate the main differences between the architectures, understand how they work and touch the flow of energy generated by the engine, following it from the source to the road.

Finally, during the “Interactive Innovation” experience, visitors will be transported to a true state-of-the-art anechoic chamber, where they will experience, together with MUNER engineers, how the vehicles behave from the point of view of the vibrations generated by the powertrains, reading the graphs produced during the tests and compare alternative design choices.
