WHAT IS EXPO 2020 DUBAI?

Expo 2020 Dubai is the Universal Exposition held in the United Arab Emirates from 1st October 2021 to 31st March 2022, during the celebration of the 50 years of the United Arab Emirates foundation. It is the first Exhibition to take place in an Arab country and the first major international event after Covid-19.

The Arabic term with which the city of Dubai was historically named is al Wasl, which means “connection”, indicating the strategic importance of its geographical position as a crossroad between people from all over the region.

Expo 2020 Dubai represents a  rebirth, and also a great opportunity for the relaunch of the Italian System and the Emilia-Romagna Region, which was among the first Italian ones to join the project.

EXHIBITION SITE

The exhibition site is shaped as a corolla of a flower and extends itself over an area of over 4 square km, hosting 204 pavilions and over 200 restaurants and points of interest. Al Wasl Plaza is the heart of the Expo site and represents the ideal place for exchange and connection among civilizations.

The Italy Pavillion, where many of the initiatives promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region take place, is located between the thematic areas  “Opportunity” and “Sustainability”, near the pavilions of United Arab Emirates, India, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Japan and the United States: a strategic position for its visibility and accessibility.

CONNECTING MIND AND CREATE THE FUTURE

Connecting minds, Creating the future ” through “Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity” is the red thread that runs through Expo Dubai, to encourage collaboration across different cultures for a better future:

  • Sustainability to promote accessibility and resilience of environmental, energy and water resources
  • Mobility to promote innovative systems of logistics, transport and communication for people, goods and ideas
  • Opportunity to unlock the potential of individuals and communities for a better future.

Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity are the  three pillars of societal progress and to them are dedicated three districts and numerous pavilions within the exhibition site .

From this perspective, dialogue, engagement and cooperation are at the heart of Expo 2020 Dubai to promote human development.
